Literature Analysis #1

Missing Dog Tags
Kenneth Eaton

           1. This Is A True Story Written By An American GI in North Korea he was a survivor one of the few lucky ones that made it through the brutal capturing. As he writes about this he is very good in adding detail's on how there were over 600 hundred men captured by the chinease he also talkes about how they got captured they were keeping eye on their troops in case there was an attack and sure enough the korean's attacked and captured them. The plot in this story is mainly in different villages. As he explains the brutality they were forced to walk long night's village after village, they didn't eat very often, they lost some men to frost bite badly and some troops just couldn't take the diet. Some men would act like animals fighting over food they even had to eat some cow dropping becuase they had dry corn inside it's a discusting thought but when you eat 3 times a week it seems duable. Theywould hide in basements while there own american ships bombed them not knowing they were captured. Kenneth also includes that the room's they had to rest awhile in were really small like a box and 30 men were in each room he said that there wasn't any room to even stretch your leg's. He was captured and held hostage for about 30 month's!!!!  Kenneth was a brave soldier like the rest but some were coward's they acted like children but Kenneth stood up for the sick men and fought for what was right. Him and another soldier escaped once but got captured again by different chinease, he saw a man be beat to death he didn't understand how someone could do that but when your a soldier thing's happen. He wrote to his family and gave the note to some nice chinease ladies who said they would find a way to send it to his family. In these times of war while they were captured they learned to trade thing's for tobacco just for one cigaratte, they also learned to save things that they got in all the villages they past through they got so usto not eating that once they landed in one spot they would just sleep to try and avoid the stomach pain's. After the 30 months of being captured they were finally rescued and Sgt. Kenneth L. Eaton finally returned home to his Mother, Father, Brother and Sister he was thinking before he arrived how it would be once he got back home what it would be like. Not seeing his family in a long time changes people, he had faith he'd return home again but he waited 2 in a half years to get home. Our brave soldier finally was home to all the questions bound to be asked about the POW and how it felt to be captured but he was ready, READY TO BE HOME! He Got Married May 28, 1954 he had four children, Ten grandchildren and Eleven great grandchildren. (P.S I met This Great Brave Soldier !! ).

Theme: War- It doesn't say war is something fun it mainly talks about how it was like to be captured and not knowing was was going to happen next was more terrifying but the brave soldiers were extremly confident waiting to be rescued.
Time: Time is main in the story it took them time to adapt to all the sudden change and especially being captured 30 months. It doesn't change really it was all about the same thing they usually already knew there daily routines but when something different happend they would be happy.

Tone: The tone of the story is very brave and stays at one tone it's very emotional especially since he's writting about his own personal expieriences.

Ken Eaton Show's us an American we can be proud of ! I enjoyed reading this book, it really opened my eyes to actually reading a real American GI survivir's story.
